Te Ahu Museum collects, cares for and keeps alive the precious histories and stories of our region Te Hiku o Te Ika – The Far North. Our taonga includes collections of pounamu (greenstone) and early carvings. Other major themes are gum digging and the Dalmatian settlers, the timber industry, early shipwrecks, and missionary pioneers. The Museum also holds a large archives collection of documents, newspapers, maps and photographs. Currently, 200+ records are online.
