Physical description
Octagonal-shaped wooden box. The lid bears a motif of assorted sea shells. The inside has space for seven cotton reels.
The cotton from each reel can be threaded through small holes in the side of the box. Under each hole is a number denoting the gauge (thickness) of the cotton dispensed from that hole. Each hole is bone or plastic-lined (some inserts are missing). The lacquer over the wood of the box has cracked and crazed with the passage of time.
