Physical description
Butt or handle from a patu or short club. Shaped from light grey coloured stone. About a third of the piece is the remnant of the blade (oval cross section), this rapidly tapers off in width and becomes round in cross section, at the handle. The bottom of the handle is drilled through for a wrist strap and it terminates in a distinct finial. The finial is half round in cross section and is grooved across to produce a series of raised bars of curving form.
